Free Worldwide Shipping and Goody Bags until 1st May 2015

From today until the 1st of May 2015 Alternative Armies is having its spring offers period. We are not attending any conventions in person this spring but this does not mean we are not making our annual offers from now and during the whole of April to our worldwide customer base as they have come to expect from us. We will be having new releases and more during this period but the offers here apply to each and every one of them all the same.  These can all be found on our Deals and Offers Page.

So while you will not see us at Salute 2015 in London this April here is what we are offering you:

Free Worldwide Shipping on all Orders over 10.00GBP Value!
If you live in the UK or Europe, the USA or anywhere else on this blue marble we call home we are giving you free shipping worldwide on all orders over 10.00GBP in product value. This has been applied to our website so all you need to do is to add items to your cart as normal moving then through to the shipping page where the offer is located. We use airmail and courier services as required and you may still choose to add a 'signed for element' to your order. Orders of less than 10.00GBP will attract our normal flat 5.00GBP shipping charge worldwide. We have placed this minimum on free shipping due to a very small percentage of customers previously who thought it correct to place extremely small orders for delivery. We do have to make a living and we think that is fair.

Free “Goody Bag” in all Orders worth 10% of your Order!
When you place an order of any size or value with us until 1st May we will automatically place a Goody Bag into your package to the value of approx 10% of the order. The items in this free bag will be related to what you have purchased but will be our choice. So if you order Flintloque Orcs you will get other Flintloque Orcs and an order for High Fantasy Dwarves will gain you other High Fantasy Dwarves or a Monster. A lovely surprise for you and great for your collections. And yes if you do order two Slaughterloo Divisions we will, with 10% of the order value, add in an entire Slaughterloo unit for free as you earned it!

These two offers run over the top of all our coming releases for the next month.

Here are the things we will be releasing from this week until a week or more before the 1st May so that you can plan out your order(s) with Alternative Armies. These are NOT in an exact release by release schedule but all are within this time frame and grouped by release planning. Look for news on each of these across the month and remember the offers apply to all of them.

Lastly as you might know we also have two other wargaming websites that we are known for and each of these is having its own similar offers until 1st May beginning from 31st March into 2nd April 2015. 52521 Von Rotte Light Troops released!

Here it is the last Von Rotte new miniature code! This is fantastic and we want to thank everyone who has supported us during the development and release of these codes for Flintloque since December 2014. Adding to the Line Infantry, Artillery Crew, Command Set, Hussars, Cuirassiers, Casualties we have Light Infantry; the skirmishers of your Legion. This is our last release before the Spring Convention Season offers begin and I can confirm that we will soon be releasing the whole Von Rotte Legion DAP (Divisional Army Pack) for Slaughterloo players. Superb!

52521 Von Rotte Light Troops  22.00GBP
This is a set of twelve 28mm white metal Dwarf miniatures giving you the skirmisher light troops which range out ahead of your line units and the rest of the army on the battlefield. Meant for use with the Von Rotte Legion but they could be at home with any Krautian or Finklestein force. Adding to an existing four poses of Light Infantry Trooper armed with Dwarf Musket MkII there are four command poses. The command poses are an officer with pistol and sword wearing a periwinkle wig, a musician with pistol and drum slung on his back, a sergeant brandishing a knife with his musket slung and finally a standard bearer with a 'brewery' pole and musket on his shoulder. Three of the troopers wear the mitre and the forth is bare headed. A total of eight poses in a unit pack of twelve suitable for Slaughterloo or a Flintloque section and also a choice of a single trooper poses to boost your collection. As with all our Valon miniatures we offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland. Go HERE

If you want to look back at all of the postings about the Von Rotte up to this point then you can do so easily here on the blog. Look to the right column and the 'Labels' section. Seek out the 'Von Rotte Dwarves' label and click on it. This will bring up all of the posts.

Orcs in the Hills fanzine to return for a Slaughterloo special!

This year is the 200th Anniversary of a battle that shaped the future of not only Europe but the whole world. The Battle of Waterloo saw an end to the campaigns of Napoleon Bonaparte and the humbling of France. While our sister brand 15mm.co.uk will be bringing the whole classic 15mm Napoleonics range back to market in time for this anniversary here at Alternative Armies we have something rather different planned. Back in the 1990's when Flintloque was but an infant and far from the global name it was to become it had a fanzine. A fanzine called 'Orcs in the Hills'. A black and white booklet printed in A5 format which contained scenarios, articles, idea, reviews and more about Flintloque. There has not been an issue of this fanzine in more than a decade but that is going to change this year as I am bringing it back for one more issue. A Slaughterloo special!

I will be doing almost all the work on this special issue of Orcs in the Hills myself. With the able pen hand of Edward Jackson providing artwork and also an article from my co-author of Flintloque 3rd Edition Mike White. It will be a labour of love done mainly in my own time and filled with articles I know Flintloque and Slaughterloo wargamers will want to read. There will be a difference of approach though and here is how. This issue will not be released in print at a price upon our website. No. Instead it will be serialised for free and put up in parts as PDF files on the Notables Yahoo Group. This will be across a number of weeks much in the way Charles Dickens used to serialise his stories in newspapers.

I made a start on this with the Flintloque Mega Scenario – Sharkes Farmhouse. You can see this HERE on the blog.

There are some six hundred and fifty members of the Notables Yahoo Group and its a place where there is more than 100mb of free files, hundreds of pictures, a legacy of more than twenty thousand messages along with wargamers to talk to. I also frequent the group several times a day and I am always happy to pitch in on all conversations including items not to appear here. Its well worth joining this Yahoo Group and while you must apply to join this is just a formality and I will sign you in (you need do this only once) where you can pull up a virtual armchair and talk about our games and miniatures. Here is the link: Notables Group

Back at the start of March 2015 I placed the whole of Barking Irons Magazine No1 on the Notables for free download. See that HERE on the blog.

The world of wargaming is a big place but Flintloque and its mass battle sister game is a close knit community of like minded wargamers who like fantasy, napoleonics, humour and unique miniatures. If this is of interest come along. More details on the Notables.

Seemed like a good announcement to make on my birthday. :-)

Von Rotte Casualty packs released

We have two packs of casualties released today into the Flintloque and Slaughterloo range. Bring out your dead for the Von Rotte Legion and also any pig riding Dwarfs if your collection. Two packs of four 28mm white metal miniatures. Find them HERE

52015 Von Rotte Casualties 8.00GBP
This pack contains four 28mm scale white metal miniatures in two different poses. Dressed in the same uniform as 52514 Von Rotte Line these now dead infantry can serve as scenario objectives or casualty markers in play or even just as decoration on your table. A face up Dwarf mouth open with wounds and a face down Dwarf with wounds which you can paint up as bloodily as you desire. You could also use a pin drill to make additional musket shots upon the corpses if you desire or remove a leg or arm for more personalisation. These miniatures are well suited to conversions. As with all our Valon miniatures we will offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland.

52016 Pummilig Pig Casualties 8.00GBP
This pack contains four 28mm scale white metal miniatures in two different poses. Our first dead animals in many years added to the range and we think that if they prove popular we will add more too. This is the same Pummilig Pig ridden by the Von Rotte cavalry and command as well as Krautian Dwarves and Confederation of Finklestein Dwarves too so they have many applications in your collection. Both poses are laying on their sides, one with a saddle box and legs in one position and the other with a different leg position and stance. These pigs can serve as scenario objectives or casualty markers in play or even just as decoration on your table. As with all our Valon miniatures we will offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland.

Here is a nice scenic photograph showing miniatures from today's release along with the Gun Captain from the Von Rotte Artillery Crew, troopers from the Von Rotte Cuirassiers and a mounted officer from the Von Rotte Command Set. They are making an advance and those less fortunate have fallen at their feet riddled with shotte. We have just about completed the whole Legion and the final release of a unit code will be next week followed by the whole division box.

More news coming as I plan to being back something not seen in the realm of Flintloque for a decade or more. But more on that soon.

Thanks for Reading.

Synopsis on Notables Yahoo Group - Sharkes Farmhouse Scenario

I have placed a synopsis of a Flintloque mega scenario titled 'Sharkes Farmhouse' over on our venerable and popular Yahoo Group - The Notables.  If you are interested in reading it, commenting and or contibuting on the thread or if you just like Flintloque or any other of our wargame systems please do click through.  If you are not a member you will be asked to join.  This is just a formality so say hi and I will join you to the group.  We are a friendly bunch.

Sharkes Farmhouse
Or – Will our Hero buy the Farm?
A Flintloque Mega Scenario for One to Four Players.
During the climactic and titanic battle of Slaughterloo there were dozens of smaller engadgements between the warring divisions as the Tyrant Mordred tried just one more time to put Urop under his heel. Among these smaller engadgements the struggle to hold the vital farm buildings of La Hesitant was paramount and comparable only to the blood bath of Hurtenblunt. Defended by detachments of the Krautian Giant Legion including skirmishers and by an escorting assortment of Rifleorcs led by Major Sharke caught in passing by the advance of Ferach troops. Will Sharke and his Orcs, with the help of the K.G.L Ogres, be able to hold against massed attacks by the Elves? Or will they crumble, the farm fall and the Armoricans be triumphant before General Pik-Tan can plug the gap?

Read the rest over on the group.

This great piece of artwork which depicts an Al-Garvey Goblin officer rubbing his hands in delight while looking at his latest box of goodies just delivered from Alternative Armies here in the real world.  Excellent!

Thanks for Reading.

First Look at the Von Rotte Dwarf and Pig Casualties

Welcome to the last of the first looks for the Von Rotte Legion. We started in January and since then we have looked at and released Line Infantry, Command Set, Artillery Crew, Light Troops, Hussars, Cuirassiers and now its the turn of that most lamentable of needed units in Flintloque and Slaughterloo..the dead. Your troops might lose, they might win but some of them will likely perish in any event and these two blister codes give you the ability to show this in play on your table. I personally love tracking a skirmish or battle by the trail of corpses across the wargaming table.

The Von Rotte Division DAP box and its elements is nearing release and will come out as our Spring Offer month begins but more on that next week. Read on for details of the dead!

52015 Von Rotte Casualties
This pack contains four 28mm scale white metal miniatures in two different poses. Dressed in the same uniform as 52514 Von Rotte Line these now dead infantry can serve as scenario objectives or casualty markers in play or even just as decoration on your table. A face up Dwarf mouth open with wounds and a face down Dwarf with wounds which you can paint up as bloodily as you desire. You could also use a pin drill to make additional musket shots upon the corpses if you desire or remove a leg or arm for more personalisation. These miniatures are well suited to conversions. These miniatures will be offered in a pack suitable for a Slaughterloo division or a Flintloque section. As with all our Valon miniatures we will offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland.

52016 Pummilig Pig Casualties
This pack contains four 28mm scale white metal miniatures in two different poses. Our first dead animals in many years added to the range and we think that if they prove popular we will add more too. This is the same Pummilig Pig ridden by the Von Rotte cavalry and command as well as Krautian Dwarves and Confederation of Finklestein Dwarves too so they have many applications in your collection. Both poses are laying on their sides, one with a saddle box and legs in one position and the other with a different leg position and stance. These pigs can serve as scenario objectives or casualty markers in play or even just as decoration on your table. These miniatures will be offered in a pack suitable for a Slaughterloo division or a Flintloque section. As with all our Valon miniatures we will offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland.

Some wargamers really like to use casualties and others simply do not use them. This is all fine with us as its a personal preference thing that depends on your style of play. We take the approach of narrative especially with such as characterful game as Flintloque and corpses can add a really exciting twist to a scenario. For example perhaps your Elves are penniless and have to loot the dead during play or your Todoroni fancy a bacon sandwich and have to recover a dead pig from a contested hill side? Plenty to think about and a hoot as well to play out!

You can see the Von Rotte Legion page on our website HERE

We will be releasing the last codes in the Von Rotte Legion across the next couple of weeks before the end of March 2015. Its been great fun showing off these sculpts and reading your reactions and we might well do it again with the next whole army development for the World of Valon. You will have to excuse me now as I have a massive Flintloque scenario to write called 'Sharkes Farmhouse'!

Von Rotte Dwarf Cavalry Codes Released!

Twelve new poses of Dwarf Cavalry Released!
We are now past the half way point with the addition of an entire new army being added to the miniatures line for Flintloque and for Slaughterloo. Following on to the Von Rotte Artillery Crew we have Hussars and Cuirassiers on Pummilig Pigs released today a total of twelve new poses. Read on for more information. CLICK HERE to visit the Von Rotte page on our website.

52519 Von Rotte Cuirassiers 18.00GBP
This is a set of 28mm miniatures which give you a group of heavy cavalry ideal for the charge and smashing the foe. Meant for use with the Von Rotte Legion but equally at home with any other Finklestein Dwarf army. Five different Dwarf riders in white metal and five identical resin Pummilig Riding Pigs. An officer with his hand raised in salute wearing a periwinkle wig and a monocle, a musician blowing a trumpet, a standard bearer with the 'bristle' flag pole and two poses of trooper armed with straight swords wearing tricorne hats. The riding pigs wear saddle and tackle with a cartridge box. This totals five cavalry miniatures. You can choose from this set of five or a full unit of ten with a saving or the option of purchasing a single trooper to add to your forces. We also offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland. Go HERE

52520 Von Rotte Hussars 18.00GBP
This is a set of 28mm miniatures which give you a group of light cavalry ideal for scouting and harassing the foe. Meant for use with the Von Rotte Legion but equally at home with any other Finklestein Dwarf army. We went crazy here and made seven different poses! In the set you get five different Dwarf riders in white metal and five identical resin Pummilig Riding Pigs. An officer with his hand raised in salute, musician with trumpet, standard bearer with the 'bristle' flag pole, a sergeant with arms at his sides riding hard along with three different poses of trooper with curved sabres (one random trooper supplied in the five figure set). All are wearing mirliton (dolman) head gear and a pelisse over one shoulder. The riding pigs wear saddle and tackle with a cartridge box. This totals five cavalry miniatures. You can choose from this set or a full unit of ten containing all seven poses with a saving or the option of purchasing a single trooper to add to your forces. We offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland. Go HERE

Other images and rear views of the codes are on the linked website pages.

These two codes have a sure place in a Dwarf players collection as he builds towards a full division giving both light and heavy cavalry. The whole division is getting nearer and nearer....exciting! There will be a DAP code with a saving for purchase of a whole boxed division at once and you will be able to order it unpainted or painted and based too. Makes you want to saddle up and ride man!

Thanks for Reading.

First Look at the Von Rotte Light Troop Command

We are aiming to release all of the Von Rotte Legion by the middle of March 2015! Fantastic news and we are so happy with the response from Flintloque and Slaughterloo players around the world with the Command Set, the Artillery Crew and the Line Infantry. To this end this is the second to last first look posting for the Dwarves and this time its the Command set for the Von Rotte Light Troops. These four miniatures are to be added to the long standing former code 52012 Von Rotte Light Grenadiers and when combined with them forms an eight pose unit pack. Excellent!

52521 Von Rotte Light Troops
This will be a set of 28mm white metal Dwarf miniatures which will give you the skirmisher light troops which range out ahead of your line units and the rest of the army on the battlefield making sure no other skirmishers come near enough to cause harm. Meant for use with the Von Rotte Legion but they could be at home with any Krautian or Finklestein force really. Adding to an existing four (not pictured) poses of Light Infantry Trooper armed with Dwarf Musket MkII we show here four command poses. These poses are an officer with pistol and sword wearing a periwinkle wig, a musician with pistol and drum slung on his back, a sergeant brandishing a knife with his musket slung and finally a standard bearer with a 'brewery' pole and musket on his shoulder. A total of eight poses which will be offered in a unit pack of twelve suitable for Slaughterloo or a Flintloque section and also a choice of a single trooper poses to boost your collection. As with all our Valon miniatures we will offer the additional choice of purchase pro-painted and based by our team of ladies here in Scotland.

Skirmishers in Flintloque
It is often in the skirmishers and light troops that a player of Flintloque feels most at home. What does this mean? Well Flintloque is a skirmish focused game and we know this so well that this set of previewed miniatures have eight poses in a total of twelve per unit. When you add an offer or other poses from other Von Rotte codes you can get twelve to fourteen characters who are all different in your Section. Naming them and giving them a back story becomes easy and your concern for their progress through scenarios assured. Skirmishers are ideal as they are used to operating without the iron discipline which holds sway over regular soldiers who march in ranks. From Captain Sharke and his Rifleorcs to the elite Elf Carabiniers you can include the Von Rotte Light Troops in that category now.

We are releasing the two units of Von Rotte Cavalry shortly so expect news coming your way about the Cuirassiers and Hussars being up for purchase. As for these short fellows they will be coming your way on or about the 12th of March 2015.   Go HERE to see the rest of the Von Rotte Legion on our website.

Thanks for Reading and one more first look to come!

Barking Irons No 1 Magazine online for Free

Yes a full thirty six page magazine about Flintloque, Firefight, DarkeStorme, Firefight, Age of Might and Steel and Alien Squad Leader is online for free.

Back in 2010 Alternative Armies published a short lived paper magazine called Barking Irons.  It featured content for many of our game systems and developed a loyal following right from the start.  The paper magazines are now sold out and while elements of each can be had online they are not presented anywhere in full to be read.  With this in mind and also that we are not likely to be publishing more issues of the magazine we have placed this issue in full on the Notables Yahoo Group.  Its free and for you to read.

Once in the group just click on the link for FILES and then on the Barking Irons folder to get the free PDFs.  The next issue will be published onto the group in a few weeks time as well.  Here is what is in this issue.

First Look at Flintloque Characters by Christian Cuello

Flintloque players went slightly bonkers over Mr Cuello's last miniature 56131 Ludwig Von Barkhoven in 2014 with hundreds of castings of it winging around the world when it released and way more when it went out free as an offer too.  After that success Mr Cuello has decided to sculpt five more civilians for use with Flintloque.  Five diverse characters with a lot of potential uses which could be fitting in to any number of collections and scenarios.  I can see them being many things and I think this was Mr Cuello's idea as well.  There are some civilians in our range but certainly there is room for many more too.

From the left these as yet untitled miniatures are:

Dogman in civilian costume with Tricorne Hat and Blunderbuss.  Could be a country gentleman or a highway rascal in Ostaria or the Confederation of Finklestein.

Orc in civilian costume with buttoned up coat and Tricorne Hat.  Many uses both urban and rural.  I see him in Londinium or Wheeling-Turns Camp in Catalucia.

Orc in civilian costume with the look of a miner or other manual worker.  A flat cap and a knife in hand suitable as hired muscle or thug.

Dwarf in civilian costume who could be a lumber jack or such trade carrying an Axe and wearing a fur trimmed cloak and sock cap.  Could also be festive fun!

Gnome.  A Gnome of Zoorik! A first really and could make an excellent assistant for an Elf, Orc, Dogman or anyone else.  Wearing squared glasses and merchant's garb.

If you have not seen Barkhoven then you can go to our website HERE or see a blog posting about this miniature on our blog HERE.  There is a free download character sheet for him too which is on these links.

This set will be released as a pack code with the option of single miniature purchase from it.  This will be during our convention season which starts this month and the details of this convention season will be published soon. So you will be able to purchase in a few weeks time. Its going to be a rock and roll period for fans of Alternative Armies and especially Flintloque and Slaughterloo with many new releases as well as offers and much excellence being put up on our Notables Yahoo Group.  Its well worth joining this Yahoo Group and while you must apply to join this is just a formality and I will sign you in where you can pull up a virtual armchair and talk about our games and miniatures.  Here is the link:  Notables Group.
