Grey Alien Disc Riders new HOF 15mm packs released

Following up on the doubling of the size of the Grey Alien forces in the HOF Range last month with sixteen more infantry poses we now release some more 'mobile' aliens.  Disc Riders!  There are now nearly forty poses in this part of the range. Our thanks to veteran wargamer Fred Richards for his contributions to the new Greys.  Go HERE for the range or read on for more.

Grey Aliens are an enigmatic race of small, bulbous-headed, and highly intelligent aliens, the Greys are primarily scientists rather than soldiers, but sometimes come into conflict with other races when competing for resources, or when seeking to establish possession of a particular site for temporary and mysterious purposes. Their unauthorised experimental activities on live subjects who have usually been abducted can also provoke a hostile military response from races who have been subjected to such intrusions. Indeed, the Greys appear to regard the rest of the universe like their own enormous laboratory. More warlike races despise Grey reluctance to cause casualties, a sign of weakness, but the Greys have been reluctantly forced to train combat teams and actual soldiers as their ability to evade detection is declining. A Grey stands at approximately four feet in height and has light grey skin with black almond eyes and favours uniform suits of a silver and blue colour.

Each of the new packs can be had as a pack or as singles in any amount by choices on the page.  There is also a code to get the Grav Disc's on their own. See GREYS here.

HOF152 Grey Alien Disc Riders

A pack of four different 15mm scale metal miniatures each in two pieces.  Grey Alien with Energy Pistol (A), Grey Alien with support size Energy Weapon (B), Grey Alien with Energy Rifle ready (C) and Grey Alien with Energy Rifle firing (D).  All wear a control helmet to guide the discs.  Four identical discs are included.

HOF157 Grey Alien Disc Rider Command

A pack of four different 15mm scale metal miniatures each in two pieces.  Grey Alien Officer in cloak pointing (A), Grey Alien with Comms Gear (B), Grey Alien with Scanner (C) and Grey Alien with Energy Capture Matrix cannon levelled (D).  All wear a control helmet to guide the discs.  Four identical discs are included.

HOF152A Grav Discs (10)

This sub code gives you a pack of ten identical metal grav discs or the option of single purchase.  The disc is one piece including flight stick and stands 15mm tall.  Its flat top with ridge will accept most 15mm scale Human sized miniatures as riders.  If you wish to have some more 'mobile' troops then this is for you!

Here is a scale picture of a Grey Alien overlord and to a Human trooper of the SFA (Security Force Alpha) either side of the new Grav Disc rider.  These popular codes let you see how tall each is and additionally all of the bases are 20mm round resin from our Bases range.

A very different and special army we are working our way towards the largest selection of almond eyed monotone little aliens you have ever seen.  Thank you for your custom and more releases next month for the Grey Alien Invasion!

This is our last news of the month. Thanks for Reading!

Stone Cold Lead paints for the Dark Czar

It is my pleasure to present a wee update from Simon over at Stone Cold Lead figure painting (he is a very talented brush master) as he tackles some modifications and then painting our Flintloque beginners set.  5024 Escape the Dark Czar.  He maintains a presence of lovely examples of his painting on a Facebook PAGE if you wish to see more.

Thought I'd show some of the little tweaks I made to the Alternative Armies. Flintloque zombies I painted recently. Decided to add a little extra detail and make their coats a bit more dynamic.  I'm not much of a putty pusher but after the first model I soon got the hang of doing what limited 'sculpting' I wanted to do.  Guess I should have taken pics of the backs of the painted models too.  Oh well, I'll do that when the other three models are painted. Prepping more models from the Flintloque Escape from the Dark Czar starter set. Two of the Ferach survivors here.  General de Brigade Hugo Saindoux a rather tubby elf who values his cooking pot and stew, and Captain Boell Umfrage the sole survivor of an ogre regiment.  Bit of green stuff work on them to give their coats a little more shape and dynamism.  Painted another little something for my Flintloque 'project'. This time it's Count Valdimir Kustosov, a vampire. A nice diversion from the green uniformed zombies. - Taken from the Stone Cold Lead page.

Click on the images to make them bigger on our blog.

If you would like to learn more about the game and its miniatures then go along to our Begin in Flintloque page for the beginners set, more miniatures including Count Kustosov as well as terrain and some free scenarios to download.  Escape the Dark Czar is the best place to enter the worlds greatest black powder fantasy game.

For the entirety of the month of September a freebie from Alternative Armies with a Dark Czar set Zombie (worth 2.50GBP) included free in every package.  Read this in full on our BLOG. You need do nothing but order and we will include it.

Orc Rock Band 'Spinal Crack' returns with bigger stage

"The smell of smoke on the rancid air. The hum of power and the flash of lightening. Screams and chants. Be this battle and the sound of slaughter? No its Spinal Crack and their latest album at full volume. An Orc Rock band from the era before music shattered and collapsed into floppy hair and corporate sound bites. These hard rockers will give you bites for real!”

Not everything a wargamer wants has to do with putting troops onto the field. Sometimes something a little different, a bit special makes an appeal to a wargamers nature and says 'I speak to your soul' and the Orc Rock Band is just such a thing. Originally released by Tabletop Games in the early 1980's and now restored to glory with one alteration.  The original stage for the band was in metal and we have replaced it with a resin stage of the same design but twice the size!

Go HERE.

You can have a complete band with stage or on a new page for this code you can select any part of the band in any amount meaning total customisation of your rockers.  The mono image shows all the pieces and use the drop down box on the 'Build your Band' page to choose what you want.  Here are the pieces:

Orc Drummer on Seat, Centre Drum Set, Side Drum and Cymbal Set, Female Singer, Female Backing Singer, Orc Bass Guitarist, Orc Lead Guitarist, Mike Stand, Speaker, Amp Deck with Controls. The Stage (Resin with Wood Planking Effect) (now 90mm wide, 55mm deep).

Anti Paladin Cavalry and Foot now in the HOT 15mm Fantasy Range

"We rode north as one. A thousand Men sworn by the mother church to defend the lands against the darkness and perversion that threatened us. Little did we know that the darkness lingers not deep from the surface in some Men. As we rode the voices whispers and shadows lucked in the forests and soon one then another and another fell away until when we came to the snow line there were but four hundred left and we had seen no foe. It was then our faith was splintered as ahead we saw our brother knights but they were not as they had been. Twisted and filled with the bane of life they were now of the darkness. Evil is all the more when once it was good."

Our new 15mm fantasy release this month adds cavalry to our Anti Paladins. The evil human knights get mounted versions of themselves riding an armoured barbaric horse! On both foot and horse the poses are evil knight in plate armour bare headed with sword raised and shield, evil knight in full plate and helm with sword and crescent moon shield, evil knight in full plate bone armour and helm with sword lowered and lastly a female evil knight in chain mail with sword and axe. Go HERE for the full range. Great for any game system.

HOT132 Anti Paladin Cavalry
This pack contains six metal rider and horse in a random evenly mixed of four different poses. As with all HOT 15mm Fantasy codes you can purchase one pack or you can choose a sampler which gives you one of each pose of miniature from this pack; a great way to try or to make skirmish forces with HOT. Go HERE

HOT104 Anti Paladins
This pack contains ten white metal 15mm scale miniatures in a random mix of four different poses. As with all HOT 15mm Fantasy codes you can purchase one pack or you can choose a sampler which gives you one of each pose of miniature from this pack; a great way to try or to make skirmish forces with HOT. Go HERE

The HOT100 Ghoul Dragon is a mighty foe indeed and while evil traditionally fights against good it also wars with itself when nothing better takes to the field.

Between the two packs you can make a great skirmishing force. Above is a line up of all eight poses across HOT104 and HOT132.

Krautian Dwarf divisional army pack for Slaughterloo and Flintloque

The miniature range for The World of Valon (Flintloque and Slaughterloo and more) is huge and when it comes to mass battle we have a full array of 'DAPs' (Divisional Army Packs) for all of the armies that fight in the Mordredian Wars.  We are in the process of updating the imagery of these DAP's.  The new photos of this division and the units which make it up come from our painting studio which produces many thousands of pro-painted and based miniatures each year to a fine tabletop quality and great price.  You can see our current painted and ready to ship stock of units, sections, characters, specials and more for the World of Valon HERE (the stock is updated every week).  What you see is what you are buying and most items are a stock level of one.

The Dwarven children of Blooka, the Iron Star God in the person of Artur, the once mighty region of Krautia that ruled over many small states within its borders has had better days.  Embattled by the Ferach Empire and in a long running feud with the Dwarves of the Confederation the troops of Krautia do their best to hold the line.  Stubborn and at times ferocious Krautians are excellent soldiers and their army aids the Grand Alliance where it can in Central Urop. You can see the full range HERE.

Every painted standard bearer which we sell always has a flag for his unit included.  The flags included free with this division are shown above.

Additionally the digital version of the massive 5030 Slaughterloo book is just 20.00GBP for immediate purchase and reading upon download.  Go HERE.

It is well worth the dedicated Flintloque player to consider the purchase of a Divisional Army Pack as the full units within it can also act as Sections in the skirmish level game.  This is common with players using a full DAP to make up a half dozen large Sections on foot and cavalry as well as a cannon and crew plus officers and casualty markers.  All with a 15% saving on single figure purchases and free bases too.

For the entirety of the month of September a freebie from Alternative Armies with a Dark Czar set Zombie (worth 2.50GBP) included free in every package.  Read this in full on our BLOG. Visit Begin in Flintloque PAGE for articles and video for the game.

MOTH Ion Age skirmish rules free files and new print run

It is important to note that the creation of the Prydian Army actually contributed greatly to the rise of both Yordan and Canlaster. Before the formation of the Army the Marcher Barons had little room for movement, they could hire mercenaries and police their own worlds but the Starvaulters kept them in check. Taking men and women from the planets of the barons and giving them so much training and weaponry only stoked the fires of civil war. Certainly they put down the rebels for several years but then they became rebels themselves as their loyalty was first to their baron and not the throne. Granted not all of the regiments abandoned the throne but we have very much been the architects of our own demise. We were warned by many but we chose to ignore them all. Kadj Dace got what he wanted, not by the means he planned but by accident of design. Prydia is aflame and none among us can stop it. Lord Turnbull, Glastonbury Tor.

Before Patrol Angis and the titanic expansion of the 15mm Ion Age range there was MOTH the skirmish game system for the more than three hundred poses in the 28mm Ion Age miniature range. MOTH has been out of printed stock for a long time but upon customer request we had a short new run made up! So you can get the book in print or paid digital download (20% less than print) now. MOTH was the starting point for the Prydian Civil War.

Three Prydian Retained in their typical white and red titanium plate. Every miniature can be had as a pack or within the pack as single poses. We also have value sets of whole platoons and lances which give you miniatures for free within them. Retained, Muster, Legion, Betrayers and Malig Goblins. Great for any 28mm game system in space opera style!

There is a free folder of useful files for MOTH which is now on the page for the book with a link. It contains rosters, templates and a starter scenario which ties into the book too. Go HERE for the range or you can CLICK HERE to download the file from our server right now.

Moth lets you to play out anything from a small skirmish with half a dozen miniatures a side right up to a squad level battle with more than a hundred miniatures in play if you so desire. Play with 28mm OR 15mm miniatures from the Ion Age. This is a game that is fast to learn, fast to play and great for younger novice players and experienced tacticians alike. Moth has a clever central mechanic based around the D10 (ten sided dice) and the adaptable Elan Rating system. This, when combined with fluid squad mechanic allows players to add to and remove from their squads in play. Plus unique features such as Break Shots, Degrade Fire, two action choice among many others makes the game flow excellently and combines tension with fun in battle. Use cover, avoid open ground, call on your fellows for support. Win the Prydian Civil War for your noble masters!

Lastly if you place an order during September 2020 you will automatically get a free 5024 Dark Czar Zombie (worth 2.50GBP) read about this on our BLOG. If you wish...just ask us (by email to sales@alternative-armies.com) with your order number when you place it and I will personally replace the Zombie with a free 28mm Ion Age miniature. Retained if you order Retained or Malig if you order Malig etc. It is my pleasure.

Concrete Barriers and Barrels new 15mm release

Need a road blocked or a hasty defensive works put in place? Sculpted by Christian Cuello (he who created Barkhoven and Valon Civilians). See FMS06 in our Battlefield Bits range (28mm and 15mm useful things) or in the HOF 15mm Science Fiction Range (where it joins our Tents, Cans and Boxes, Body Bags etc).

FMS06 Concrete Barriers and Barrels.  This code contains six different 15mm resin pieces giving you a series of concrete barriers and barrels.  Just the thing for modern, near future, science fiction and other gaming.

You can select a set of six pieces or using the menu on the page select any of the pieces (A to F) in any quantity allowing total choice! Go HERE.

As you can see these go really well with Security Force Alpha miniatures (remember he is on a 20mm round base thus the added height).

Enemy is incoming!  Female SFA troopers get ready behind their barricades.

Have you seen HOF122 Media Team?  If you are planning an urban campaign then reporters might well be a cool addition.  All of our non-military 15mm codes in the HOF range can be seen on the CIVILIAN tag for the range.

Traders and Entertainers return to the Torture Chamber range

Now re-mastered and back in the world more classic poses in the 28mm Torture Chamber range.  We have just about brought back every pose and set which was around in the 1980's and later this year we will unveil several codes which were made for this setting but were never released (yes never seen before!).  Today's news gives you characters which go along with the ladies in the Harem set and would go well with The Rack or The Whipping Beam for instance.

Each of these miniatures can be had in the pack or on its own as well.  Go HERE.

TOR15pt3 Harem and Slave Market Pt3 Trader and Entertainers

This classic pack is the third of several to bring you the Slave Market and Harem characters in the Torture Chamber collection. It contains five 28mm scale miniatures as follows. Dancing Girl (1), the Slave Master (2), Harem Eunuch Guard (3), Girl with Fan (4) and Sitting Musician (5). These miniatures are for use in dioramas or dungeon crawl type games and settings. Painted examples shown on 25mm square bases.

The Inquisitor on the Throne.  There is a lot in this range for both fantastical and historical wargaming.  All of the sets can be had as a pack or pieces from them if you wish to craft your own visions of the setting.  Go HERE.

These are all of our 28mm fantasy releases for this month but you can check out the re-mastered and expanded Orc Rock Band just now before we talk about it in a couple of weeks time.

Article 22 The Adventures of Gorgon Lightfoote - Part 4

Andy Jefcoate returns with the twenty second article on Flintloque the forth in the adventurers of Gorgon Lightfoote. If you missed any of the previous articles you can see them all for free on the blog by clicking on this TAG. If you would like to Begin in Flintloque visit our website for Escape the Dark Czar and free content and videos.  Enjoy!  GBS

The Adventures of Gorgon Lightfoote - The Support Troops

In my last three articles I've introduced you to the core of Gorgon Lightfoote's Britorcn section and explained how I've used them in my games. In this article I'd like to show you the last but by no means least of the current members in his section, although I'm sure that he'll receive reinforcements in the future!

Depending on the scenario you can often gain an advantage by including specialists and Lightfoote is becoming a master at using the Witchlands terrain to his benefit. As his force is light and fast moving, regular artillery is out of the question, but a Mountain gun has rectified the situation and as my scenarios are often created around a raid or ambush a sniper is useful too!

The Mountain Gunners

Code 56596S gives you a 2lb cannon which is basically the same as a large Ogre Kannonderbuss and enemy troopers certainly don't want to be hit by it. For Roundshotte it hits with 75/10 up to 15cm range, but is still 60/8 up to 38cm and 40/6 up to 75cm which is enough to give a bad day to most enemy troopers, while for Caseshotte you get 80/6 up to 15cm and 55/3 up to 38cm.

You only need two gunners to use a 2lb cannon, mine are from code 56515 Joccian Artillery Crew and have been painted to match the Blacke Watchit troopers as they are part of their unit as close infantry support.

One major advantage of a gun of this size is that you don't need a limber. Two characters can carry it with a 30% reduction in movement and if necessary one character can carry it with a 70% reduction in movement. This means that it can be taken into or though terrain such as woods where you wouldn't normally dream of taking a cannon. It can also be lifted over linear obstacles such as walls or fences!

A Mountain Gun can be useful in attack or defense. I usually use it on the end of a line of infantry to support an attack or help to clear a flank of enemy attackers but it is equally useful for holding an area of terrain. At a cost of only 55 points for the gun plus the cost of two gunners I don't know why more sections don't include one. I've already bought a second one for my Ferach force.

The Sniper 'Old One Shot'

This veteran Rifle Orc was once a member of the 105th Foote in Catalucia but like 'Stab'and 'Grab' he has ended up in Lightfoote's service. He is a loner and probably isn't actually old for an Orc but his time spent out in the wilds gives him a rather disheveled appearance. This and his ability to efficiently take down a target have led to his nickname.

For this character I've used a figure from the classic pack 50010 Sharke's Rifles 1st edition. He still has his 105th Foote uniform but carries everything he needs on his back so this figure is perfect.

In Flintloque 'Old One Shot' is a Veteran and an Elite Light Trooper, which gives him +15% accuracy, +3 Steady, +3 Discipline and +3 Melee on top of his Orc Racial Statistics of Steady 3, Wounds 3, Discipline +1 and Melee +2. He carries an Orcish Bakur Rifle which is very accurate at closer ranges (80/6 up to 15cm and 65/4 up to 45cm) but also has a maximum range of 75cm and has a bayonet attached to give a further +3 in Melee. The only downside of a Bakur Rifle is that it takes 2 turns to reload so in case he doesn't live up to his name this character also carries  a standard pistol.

As if 'Old One Shot' wasn't good enough already I have given him the following skills and traits.

- Stealth (5 points) - After all figures have deployed this character can be placed anywhere within cover such as light woods, buildings or behind a wall as long as he is more than 15cm away from all enemy figures.

- Good Shot (2 points) - Further +5% accuracy on all shooting columns.

- Jamminess (3 points) - This character can re-roll one die roll per game.

As you can see, at 72 points although he isn't the cheapest Section Member 'Old One Shot' can be very useful if you need to take out a specific enemy section member or commander, just what you need from a sniper, but he is also pretty impressive in combat as long as he isn't too isolated or massively outnumbered.

In Conclusion

These troops have been perfect additions to my force for specific scenarios, but the Mountain gun especially could be part of any section as it is so versatile and while not as hard hitting as most artillery it's ability to cope with any terrain and cheap cost more than make up for it in my mind. I think that you should get one today, why wait!

I have had fun with 'Old One Shot' in my games. He has fit in well with Lightfoote's force and has played his part in Ambush scenarios helping to capture a lesser Vampyre, he has fought on the defensive in a firing line with the Blacke Watchit when they have been attacked by Zombiski Cossacks and he has single handedly fought his way through a small section of zombies and a Liche to get back to his comrades after being cut off. Characters like this make the Flintloque game so fun to play as you can invest time in them and create a story!

 What's next?

As always I hope that you've enjoyed reading my articles about Gorgon Lightfoote's gallant band and that it has inspired you to try using a different force in your games. He will appear again in the future but for the time being I will be returning to my Ferach and Witchlands armies as there are so many great Flintloque figures to talk about!

Thank you for reading.

Andy
