A venerable wargames rules set which is going strong and excellent play of an afternoon is Hordes of the Things (HOTT) of which our own Hordes of Things (HOT) 15mm Fantasy Range was named and begun as in 1991.  We are pleased to announce MDF element bases at great prices added to our Bases for Miniatures Range in the sizes for HOTT.

We have added a further five MDF bases to our array which covers wood, resin, metal and plastic in a great many shapes and sizes.  Great for any game and scale of miniature or monster or vehicle. The new codes are:

Flower of Evil III free in orders and what is coming until March 10th

EH09 Flower of Evil III:  You can use it in 28mm in 15mm or 6mm as it sizes its threat to your other miniatures. Horror Games, Post Apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Plant Wars (they are Triffic!) and more. One piece resin miniature which is 28mm across and 10mm tall. Its mouth gapes and a tongue lolls. Other miniatures shown with it are for scale comparison only and not supplied. 

Above you can see how the Flower matches with the 28mm scale Erin Celtic Myth miniature and an Alternate Stars miniature too.  Then in 15mm scale a Star Merc from the HOF Range and a Wraith from the 15mm HOT Fantasy Range.  Lastly a stand of 6mm Infantry from the Bradley Miniatures Range.

Here are all three of our Flowers of Evil which are a fine addition to a garden of horrors. EH01 Flower of Evil and EH08 Flower of Evil II which are to be found in our Monsters and Creatures Range.

What is coming and happening before 10th March 2025

During the next month or so we have a lot happening.  Our Deals and Offers has been updated with some new treats added to the array there.  Among others are HOF27 Maginot Defence Tower and HOF156 Combat Saucer (Grey Aliens) plus 59520 Mortar in 28mm scale all at 25% off. These new will last until the end of this period.  

Our Bases for Miniatures Range will expand further with MDF sizes for HOTT 2nd Edition and its 15mm Armies.  We will have a new 28mm Ion Age release for the Grima Combat Robots following on the Portable Weapons and related.  

Adore the Monster another classic Asgard sculpt of the 1980’s by Nick Bibby is released the Silent Shambler.

However the biggest news concerns the Dwarfish Hosts (DH) 28mm Fantasy Range.  Featuring sculptors Andy Cooper, Dave Gallagher, Mike Owen and others we are overhauling the whole range. Miniatures dating from 1987 to 2025. Brand new pictures will be joined by new molds and the expanded ability to purchase every miniature as a single and as packs with a saving baked in. Some 70 Dwarfs along with Halflings and Gnomes as well as Artillery and Monsters.  And a brand new release.

Nearly 60 Base choices with second round of MDF codes added

Your miniatures need to stand tall and to stand proud to win.  Allow us at Alternative Armies to assist you in this noble pursuit of making your warriors ready for the fray.  We have added a further six options of MDF bases to our array which covers wood, resin, metal and plastic in a great many shapes and sizes.

This time following on from squares it is circles of larger sizes.  From 25mm to 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm to 100mm round.  See our Bases for Miniatures Range for near sixty choices.

Here is a use for the 40mm Round Base to stand your Warbot upon.  See the Alternate Stars Range for such machines of conflict.

The 75mm Round Base would give a nice surround to lift Nick Bibby’s NB1 Barbarian (65mm tall) which has its integral metal base supplied with it.

What a 100mm Round Base is ideal for is a diorama of 28mm Scenics or to be put under a GNATS Mecha from the HOF 15mm Range each of which is 100mm or 90mm tall.

The smallest base and done by request of Laserburn fans is the 16mm Round which ideal for those miniatures and Asgard 15mm sci-fi too as these are true scale 15mm and smaller than our HOF and Ion Age ranges which use 20mm round bases.

Nearly 50 choices of Bases with first MDF codes added plus Discounts

Our news and releases this week are additions to our wide array of bases for miniatures.  Five new packs of MDF Wooden bases as squares and circles to kick us off and we will work towards putting all our existing sizes in resin and metal into this medium too.

As with our metal and resin round and square bases we offer these MDF codes in packs of twenty with saver options to purchase 50,100 or 500 with more off at each level.  All of these bases are 2mm thick.  Here are the new codes:

Alongside the satisfying weight of metal bases and the thicker grip and comfort of resin bases the prime advantage of MDF is its light weight and its affordability to you.  Above are examples of what you could do with these new bases.  The 16mm round is ideal for Laserburn while the 20mm round suits HOF 15mm Sci-fi and SHM Range.  The 20mm square is great for Goblins and the 25mm square goes with any of typical 28mm scale such as Erin Celtic Mythology.  The larger 30mm square is ideal for Ogres or smaller Artillery such as our Mountain Gun.

Five new resin slot codes added to our wide array of bases

With the welcoming of Halcyon Miniatures to Alternative Armies we took on our first miniatures without integral bases of their own.  Thus ‘slot bases’ were created by us to be supplied for free with every Halcyon figure; which have ‘tabs’ under them.  We originally had no intention of offering them on their own but you asked and we provide!  

Now on our Bases for Miniatures pages are five sizes in two types of slot bases in resin.  A small 20mm round base ideal for familiars and very small creatures.  A 30mm round base for Human sized miniatures and a 40mm round base for Ogres and other larger miniatures.  The other type is denoted ‘W’ for Wide and comes in 30mm and 40mm round with a wider slot for those miniatures with thicker tabs.  All these can be had in packs of ten or select a single base in any amount on the page.

We have a wide array of resin bases in our range from 20mm round to 100mm round and 20mm square to 50mm square plus others such as Troop Element Trays, Lifter Bases, specialist sized bases and Sengoku Monster Hunter Tokens.

As well as those offerings we have many different sizes of metal bases as well for those who wish weight under their miniatures such as the popular thin 16mm round for 15mm scale miniatures. Also flying bases for bikes and plastic display domes for your painted miniatures.

New Bases released 50mm square and 100mm rectangle

By request two new sizes of resin cartouche (rounded edges for easy lifting and placement into movement trays etc) bases added to the range.  Great for any game system in any scale you can see all of our bases in resin, metal and plastic HERE.  Read on for more information.

These larger sized bases are great for mounting multiple 28mm or 15mm miniatures or a single larger monster or vehicle.  As with all of our bases you have the option of a single pack or select on screen three packs and save 10%.  Our bases are square, rectangle and circle as well as other more specialised shapes and uses such as flight stands and anti-gravity mounts.

Element Bases for HOTT

We have five types of cartouche style element bases for use with HOTT 2nd Edition or with any other element using wargame system. Produced in high quality grey tone resin these bases all have a 40mm frontage and varying depths. These correspond exactly to the sizes used in HOTT and to the basing table for different troop types in the game; those being Letter A to Letter E. Each pack is priced the same and contains a varying number of the same size base. You can make your selection by clicking on the drop down product menu. Details are below:

IAF077 Troop Element Trays

These bases are made of resin and are 3mm thick each with a different number and size of circular recesses on their ground textured upper surfaces. Each recess is made to fit either a 20mm round base or a 30mm round base.  These are durable and rugged which makes them ideal for your troops to be mounted into on their own bases.  We offer the Troop Element Bases in different sizes which are listed here by sub-code, number of recesses with sizing and number per pack.
