Oggum Oggra released by Grinning Skull

An Oggra is the biggest and meanest strain of the Oggum. Strong and dangerous, ideally suited to battle or hard labour, but low on IQ, which is generally exploited by their smaller cousins. On the homeworld, oggum scientists have learned to stimulate the Y chromosome in growing ogglets, using a chemical compound known as "treatment Y", originating in the dark and secret labs of the Von Ok line in Okva. The Von Ok's are allied to the League of Anthracks, and supply the Leagues troops with the main bulk of elite soldiers, chukk and warbeasts, who are direct results of their cruel and twisted experiments. Oggra created there are subjected to the usual mind control techniques and conditioning, before being shipped out to bolster League forces around the globe. 

To combat these abominations, the Og Imperialists have used a refined version of the treatment on conscripted oggum adolescents (with varying results) so, it is not uncommon to find these creatures in the employ of the empire too. 

Oggra can occur naturally, starting as any normal ogglet, only to swell to big proportions in a short time. These Oggra are rare, which is a good thing really, given the amount of precious resources they take up and consume each day, many settlements may struggle to support such a brute. Sometimes their births are seen as a curse, and are thrown out and left to fend for themselves. These Oggra can turn savage and prove to be problematic to local warlords if they reside near the warlords territory. While they won't win any medals for their intelligence, the make up for in battle and intimidation, and are a rare prize to any would be warlord for his retinue.

Customers Excellent Service from Alternative Armies

A quick and short post across our three blogs today.  Alternative Armies, 15mm.co.uk and The Ion Age are all part of one company of which I am the creative manager.  Its a varied job with a lot of responsibility in many areas.  On top of the office work and the creation of wargames and content as well as design briefs for new miniatures I also oversee the websites and the photography and product construction too.  Finally as part of my role I speak to customers and to wargamers.  

I do this often outside of normal working hours and at weekends too.  In fact I take such great pride in my role and the company that I answer every single message and email sent to us or to me.  Every order passes through my hands at least once and all questions are addressed by myself.

Kize Delta Squad released by Grinning Skull

The Kize are an insidious, worm like alien race who infest hosts internally, eventually transforming them into fully fledged kize. The kize invasion begins when the larval forms are secreted into water supplies to unsuspecting worlds. Slowly, the takeover gathers momentum with each new victim falling to the infection, each time a new host developing new lavae inside them, then infecting more hosts. Eventually the DNA of the host is overwritten by the Kize, developing the characteristic single eye and distended spine becoming a tail as the legs atrophy. Once the transformation is in progress, there is no hope for the victim, as their old self is consumed by the larval creatures that are being nurtured inside their mutating bodies. 

The Delta is the common form of these creatures, created from most bipedal races, and are at the bottom of the kize social ladder, subordinate to the larger Gamma and Betas, and ruled by the deadly Alpha types. Kirzors are the close combat adaptations, armed with large slashing talons. While Aerozors have leathery wings, serving as the eyes in the sky. Many more adaptations exist, from the huge Sluketh, to the vile Infestikor, a huge larval breeding factory at the heart of many an invasion. Note that these names are given names by xeno-biologists and such like, not their true names, in their own language. Such a language exists, but is a truly bizarre guttural screech that so far, no one has been able to decipher. 

All Kize are able to have independent thought, but there is indeed a strong mental connection with other members of their race, and will always band together in unity when faced with any confrontation. This sixth sense means that they are able to sense through each others senses and gain advantage over their enemies. They will swarm together en masse, acting on instinct and without question in battle, making them a dangerous foe. With their worm like bodies and single glaring eye they stand about 24mm tall.

DarkeStorme 28mm Fantasy Rules reviewed by Chris Walkley

There is an independent review of my DarkeStorme high fantasy 28mm skirmish level rule system over on Chris Walkley's blog.  You can read it HERE. You can see the book and read of its contents and aims on our website HERE.

As a treat I have taken 10% off its price until further notice.  I enjoyed writing the book and through it was a few years ago now it gives a great one hour game using any miniatures.  I playtested it with Dwarfs.  The Dwarfs were from our now re-mastered and re-released DH range which you can see HERE.  My favourite pack to use was DH4 High Dwarfs. The five poses in it are true characters and ideal for skirmishing.

Its a packed book with a lot to read and a lot of ideas.  I wrote it mainly at night while there was a baby in the house so its a result of joy and stress...

Grinning Skull releasing over twenty new miniatures during May!
