Wargame News and Terrain reviews 59007 Cryptmass House

Looking into the Box
Timmy over at Wargame News and Terrain blog has posted up a review of the 59007 Cryptmass Goblin House which I sent him back in December.  Its a nice read and offers images such as the one above that are different from those seen on the Alternative Armies website of the finished resin building.

Its a favourable review of our first structure and its something we will be continuing this year.  He commented on the great value and price of the house and I agree; you get a lot for your money.  It was a lot of effort to get it to a finished state and released but its a lovely looking building with a real fantasy feel.  Enjoy!

Slaughterloo goes OOP!

Wow!  That is all I can say.  Might be the season, might be the weather, might be Wylde Magicke but following on to one of the core Flintloque 3rd edition titles going out of stock early this week we have just sold the final dozen 5030 Slaughterloo rule books too. Wargamers do like their winter reading it seems.

I am going to organise another print run of this mighty 168 page book and once its ready we will bring Slaughterloo back into stock.  This book is the biggest Alternative Armies has in its inventory and also the biggest title build I have so far undertaken and while I am sad to see it sell out I am also rather chuffed too!

In the meantime if you are reading this and you would like to be emailed when Slaughterloo is back then email me and I will let you know.

The Free State of Schnoselburg (Flintloque Fan)

Grenadier, Officer and Line Infantry of Schnoselburg
Tony Harwood pointed out a lovely link on the Notables Yahoo Group this week which led to a blog where a brand new Flintloque player and setting was taking shape.  I always love to see new players and their ideas in World of Valon.

This new fan is a lady and she resides in far off Oz (who knows what madness and creatures of Wylde Magicke reside there being so far from the Power Ring and Mordred's Throne in Armorica) where her very good fellow Christian has just put the final touches to something that will appear here on the blog in times to come.

Full information on The Confederation of Finklestein, that collection of hundreds of petty dukesoms and puppet kingdoms, can be found in 5028 Bier & Bones book for Flintloque 3rd edition.  I assume that Schnoselburg is part of the Ferach allied Confederation and not loyal to the lunatic Emperor Klaffenhund of Ostaria.

You can read the full posting about the Free State of Schnoseburg and its Dogmen over on the Princess Diaries blog.

Grapeshotte 3rd Edition goes OOP!

Its been a busy weekend for Alternative Armies and a side effect of this is that 5027 Grapeshotte 3rd Edition has gone out of stock.  Oh no!  It can no longer be bought from our website but our agents will still have copies such as Noble Knight Games over the USA.

We will bring the book back into print and I will announce this when it occurs here on the blog.

In the meantime if you are reading this and you would like to be emailed when Grapeshotte is back then email me and I will let you know.

59520 Mortar Set.  A Grapeshotte favourite!
Grapeshotte is a fantastic read and of all of the 3rd edition book so far it has the highest word count with information on the armoury, specialist troops and artillery of every army on Valon.

Classic Asgard Space Marines

SM3 Space Marine in full armour
SM3A Space Marine in full armour jump jets
Last year Alternative Armies brought some of the 25mm/28mm Asgard Space Marine range back to white metal life through our website.  Its not the whole range of what Tabletop Miniatures has to offer or all the Space Marines but now we have great pictures of most of these miniatures and they show these classics off in awesome fashion.  Great for anyone into powered armour and sci-fi.

You can find these miniatures on the Alternative Armies website.  There are ten codes with images covering Space Marines in light armour, in full armour, jump jets, officers, space troopers, battle droid and more.  The examples on our website are painted by our lead designer Sam Croes and they are some of his favourite figures.

SM9 Space Trooper Captain
Pricing on these miniatures is very reasonable at 1.75GBP for a typical sized Space Marine (such as SM8 Space Trooper Captain) and 2.50GBP for a Space Marine in full armour with the SM9 Battle Droid being 4.00GBP.

SM9 Battledroid (35m tall)
The history behind this range of miniatures is one of the best in the tale of British Wargaming.  You can see from Wikipedia here the story of the term 'Space Marine' and Asgard's use of it in 1980-82 providing inspiration for a great many followers in the industry.  Styled after such classics as the 1968 movie 2001 A Space Odyssey directed by Stanley Kubrick they are quite unlike anything made now.  In 1979 Richard Halliwell and Rick Priestly came up with Combat 3000, a wargame that I believe brought about the SM range of Space Marines.  Combat 3000 is currently out of print but if anyone reading this has a copy of it and or its sequal Combat 3001 contact me I would like to get them.

We aim to expand the range re-released across this year but for now I give you the Asgard Space Marines.
