52021 Legion de Nain veterans released for Flintloque

“It did not take long..well it would not considering all the skirmishing and battles we fought...for the legions to gain their share of veterans among the ranks.  Useful Nains who could be put among the short beards to steady them in the line.  By the time of Fassbier and its carnage I felt all the better for having steady troops.  It was a shame there was only grog to drink..bloody Orcs..but they thought they were doing us a favour I suppose.”  (Major Ulf von Slackblatten 1st Legion de Nain)

Now that the three main parts of the Legion de Nain infantry are released (line, light and grenadiers) and the classic packs re-mastered, we have a treat and that is the first of the more personality driven specialist pack codes.  Legion de Nain Veterans!  Four Dwarves in poses to mix into your force; each a character.  The legion has doubled and then doubled again in size and you can read all about it on our blog using the Bier Wars TAB. Go HERE for the Confederation of Finklestein on the website where all these miniatures reside.

52021 Legion de Nain Veterans: This pack contains four different 28mm scale metal Dwarves which are at home anywhere in the Legion and ideal to mix into your sections and units.  Choose from the pack or select a pose from the pack (A to D). All are dressed in legion uniform. They are a bare headed Dwarf with eye patch aiming pistol ideal for section command or duelling (A), Dwarf arms folded head back laughing with musket on his back (B), bare headed Dwarf drinking from a opened bier stein and holding half of a large cured sausage (C) and Dwarf in glasses in process of lighting a long stem pipe (D).  All have extra equipment on their belts and backs.  Go HERE.

As we progress more releases will happen monthly as we expand the Legion de Nain and work towards it as a full force of all arms (the biggest ever expansion to the miniature range for a single army) we will also be slowly putting together a Flintloque campaign book on the Monich Bier War too.  There are now forty two different Dwarves in the Legion.

If you would like to get into Flintloque in the lands of the Dwarfs then look no further than 5028 Beir and Bones game book.  On its own with full rules in print or as a digital download or as a shilling starter pack with miniatures and scenarios.  Go HERE.

If you have any questions please contact us on sales@alternative-armies.com and ask.

This is our last release for the World of Valon and all else this month we hope you like it.

Erin Celtic Myth 28mm range returns to the website

Alternative Armies is delighted to once more be able to offer our unique range of miniatures in the Erin range to wargamers and collectors worldwide. Sculpted by legends of the industry across the early years of the 1990's all the figures have been re-mastered and are now online as single choices (plus three warbands with savings).  They have returned to their original codes and their names from the Erin game also.  The Sidhe, the Fomorians, Firbolg and Milesians as well as many monsters and minor gods. 85 Different Miniatures. Great for any 28mm game system and wonderfully characterful.  Go HERE.

Currently we have brand new images of the Sidhe and of the Fomorians for you to see.  More will follow soon as we progress so it is well worth checking back over coming weeks as we get to the monsters and the Milesians.  All of the codes are now in the range though including three miniatures which have not been available in nearly three decades.  Can you spot them?

The Sidhe are a whimsical race. What seems trivial to a Man they find significant, what Man mocks they cherish. To a Sidhe Hero even the pursuit of a poignant tune can be a lauded quest.  Clan Warriors make up most of their warband alongside a couple of Champions and of course a Hero of legend.

The Formori are the sea dwellers who come to the land to conquer, with little in the way of lofty ideals, it is for avarice and cruelty that they quest.  Terror from the waters of Erin.  Fomori grow in stature as they age with Pucci being the smallest and the mighty elder Heroes the largest.

We are committed to the Erin range in the longer term which means it will grow from here.  There shall be more miniatures and it is our aim to release Erin 3.0 when we are able to among our other titles such as En Garde and The Bier Wars.  We have been delayed by a world event but the will is strong and these things will happen.  So if you wish to see certain heroes of legend or warriors of note appear then do please tell us who they are.  Do you want a horde of Pucci?  We may even create our own vision of the monstrous Balor!

HOT137 Iguanosaur creature and mount released

“Few Armies command monsters to be their cavalry mounts but the Savage Lizardmen do just that.  The Iguanosaur was perhaps not meant to have ever been but it is and thus we must deal with it. Terrifying in its own right even without a rider!”

Our new release in the HOT 15mm Fantasy Range for this month is a fantastical creature.  The Iguanosaur is the cavalry mount of the Savage Lizardmen (these packs of cavalry will be coming later on in the army) and it is a monster in its own right too.

HOT137 Iguanosaur: This code contains four identical resin miniatures.  A monster and cavalry mount which will take most 15mm scale riders this cold blooded creature is great in any setting. Choose from a pack or a sampler option of a single miniature. The miniature is supplied in one piece and is 20mm tall. Supplied unpainted and without a base shown on a 20mm by 40mm rectangle base.  Go HERE.

The Savage Lizardmen army is growing with every release.  We now have warriors, spears, polearms as well as a Behemoth, Lizard Ogres and Artillery.  More to come..be assured.

Ikwen Uprising event is on 25% off new and all Loud Ninja Games range

Now online all of the codes in the second expansion for the Ikwen by Loud Ninja Games. These new packs are in production in Scotland and we have made a bit of an event out of it!  From now until Friday 3rd September 2021 there is Twenty Five Percent (25%) off all of the new Ikwen AND the entire rest of the LNG range.  This discount is on screen and already applied. Your chance to get in on the awesome.  Go HERE or read on for full details.

You can place as many orders as you wish and in every package mailed out a free Hann Merchant (worth 3.50GBP) will be automatically included.  Perhaps the Hann is a large alien (30mm tall) allied to the Ikwen?  See the free HERE. We will be shipping out orders which contain the new codes at the end of August 2021.

Who and what are the Ikwen?

"If you are new to the Ikwen or its been a while, let me introduce you to a race that is fighting for its own freedom and the preservation of its species. Envisioned as a range of miniatures to represent one side of an asymmetric conflict the Ikwen are intended to be pitted against any other species or faction 15mm players might have in their collections. To this end, the miniatures are depicted with mostly mid-tech weaponry, the sort that might be cobbled together or acquired in great numbers from sources outside the conflict much in the same way that we see the AK-47 used in modern day warfare. I have worked hard to make sure the Ikwen show some sort of specific culture in their sculpts, even if that is just the minimal cloths they wear between their legs and the sorts of gear they carry. The Ikwen are miniatures designed to tell a story." -  Eli Arndt (creator of Loud Ninja Games and the Ikwen)

What new codes have been released? A total of eleven new packs. Go HERE.  Every code can be had as a pack or as single poses within it in any quantity.  Here they are!

Any chance of seeing these Ikwen painted up and in scale shots? Yes!  That is in progress right now. Our lead designer Sam Croes (prime sculptor of the 15mm Ion Age range) and professional figure painter is brushing up a full array of the new codes.  Once these are complete we will show you the results.

How about some rules for Ikwen? While the miniatures in the Loud Ninja Games range can be used with any game system you want Alternative Armies we will have an article with game rules for Iwken in Patrol Angis.  If you fancy pitting them against the Prydians, the Khanate or the Prang you will be able to. Written by Gavin Syme.

What else is in the Loud Ninja Games range? Many strange and interesting science fiction creatures, aliens and mutants.  The Yandrassi Empire as well as the the Chuhuac Space Raptors and Wasteland selection too.  More than sixty packs to choose from including vehicle like the Vasseth Strike Tank below.  Have a browse. A real feature point of the range are the six Archon mecha kits each very posable and standing 60mm tall.  You can see the Guardian Archon with its energy sword and shield above.

We hope you enjoy this event which turns a nearly successful kickstarter campaign for the Ikwen into a reality with a good saving.

The meeting of Da Vinci with Borgia and Machiavelli titans of history July 1502

Ever since I was a wee nipper reading his first history books (and playing with miniatures) I remember one of the most, at least to me, astounding meetings of all time.  That being in late July 1502 at the city of Urbino in Italy three titans of history (two of which on a world stage) came together ever so briefly.  Leonardo da Vinci by then an older man met the youthful Niccolo Machiavelli and the warlord Cesare Borgia.  An eye at that moment might have seen them all in the same tent or on horseback next to each other.  From there history took them in different directions but so many possibilities were in the air right there and then it is very attractive to the wargamer.

When Alternative Armies began to work with Stephen Danes on what would become Furioso the period of the Renaissance and indeed the Italian Wars were of prime interest to me.  The meeting of the three were foremost in my mind and there was no doubt that these personalities would become 15mm scale miniatures.  As well as creating more than forty new Landsknechts (after all these fellows are central to the period), new artillery and the Da Vinci Tank (which never happened in history but was made for TV in the USA) we first made Da Vinci and then Borgia and then he of 'The Prince' and a word in language itself Machiavelli.  For greatest use they are on foot and on horseback too. I was greatly heartened by the positive response to these miniatures.

While information on the meeting is vague and indeed Leonardo makes only one reference to it in his notes it is mainly from Machiavelli that the details come.

"The book starts in June 1502 when Cesare Borgia swept through and conquered the northern section of central Italy - the Romagna (from Bologna to Ancona). This raid also put Florence in jeopardy, since they could see themselves as next in the territorial ambitions of young Cesare (then aged 27). So Machiavelli, aged 33, and another negotiator (Francesco Soderini) were dispatched by the Republic to try and negotiate with Cesare. During these negotiations a pawn was offered: the unemployed and eccentric Leonardo, who was already 50, would be assigned to Cesare to assist him in his military engineering requirements."

You can seek these out yourself but for a quick and excellent resource see page 111 onwards in Paul Strathern's book 'The Artist the Philosopher and the Warrior'; well worth owning.

Our 15mm Renaissance range will continue to expand over coming months with another personality and more troops too. Mr Danes is working on the third book in the Furioso series which will be all about The English Civil War (ECW) and we will bring you news of this when the time comes.  Note though that this is in its early testing stage.

Thank you for your time in reading this little thought and as always for your support.

Phree Riders and Bisons added to the 28mm Frontear range

It is our great delight to announce the release of more miniatures sculpted by John Bell (creator of the Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy range) into the Frontear game system.  Phree Riders!  Following up on last month's Phree Brave packs as well as the Logann Brave packs and the mighty Wendigo these tall 28mm scale birdmen fit right into the game and any other suitable wargame too.  Riding on Bison which can also be had on their own too.  See the whole range HERE including the book as a digital download plus Orc Gunfighters, Civile Warre Soldiers, Frontear's Orcs and Dark Elf Banditos too.

"Elsewhere in North Amerka, different Tribes reacted in a far more hostile manner to the Uropeans’ arrival. Word filtered through to the Uropeans settling the west coast of a different race inhabiting the continent’s arid south, and the Great Plains further east. An Avian race called the Phree made their home here; hunter gatherers. These fiercely territorial people had not taken kindly to the Catalucians encroachment on their ancestral hunting grounds. Their Shaman had experienced a profound loss of power, but most infuriating of all to the wandering Phree was the fact that they could no longer fly as they once had. A whole generation had been set-a-foot, never they believed to experience the wonders and freedom of flight again. The eagle like Phree could have become demoralised like the Macaw, or suspicious and withdrawn like the Logann; instead, they became hostile and the Catalucians paid in blood for every mile they travelled North in their pursuit of gold. Out numbered and outgunned, the Phree nevertheless knew the country like the back of their wings and that, coupled with their native courage and ferocity, made them an adversary to be feared." Frontear game book.

Three new codes which can be has as packs or as single miniatures too.  A Phree stands about 35mm from sole of foot to beak and upon the bison they are about 45mm tall.  Armed with spear, shield, axe and bows they are sculpted by John Bell.  Sadly we were unable to get a set of these miniatures painted before release but we hope these sharp images of the metal will serve the purpose.  Go HERE.

The Bison upon which the Phree ride can be had on their own in code 7126. Each is about 50mm long and 30mm tall. They join our riding Pig, Boar, Dodo, Horses, Lizards, Rhinos, Hippo, Gnoll and much more suitable for any rider in our Battlefield Bits and Others range.  You can also find our extensive array of bits and sprues in this range for such things as feathers, tankards, pies, fruit, cooked meat, weapons and back packs.
