Nearly 60 Base choices with second round of MDF codes added

Your miniatures need to stand tall and to stand proud to win.  Allow us at Alternative Armies to assist you in this noble pursuit of making your warriors ready for the fray.  We have added a further six options of MDF bases to our array which covers wood, resin, metal and plastic in a great many shapes and sizes.

This time following on from squares it is circles of larger sizes.  From 25mm to 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm to 100mm round.  See our Bases for Miniatures Range for near sixty choices.

Here is a use for the 40mm Round Base to stand your Warbot upon.  See the Alternate Stars Range for such machines of conflict.

The 75mm Round Base would give a nice surround to lift Nick Bibby’s NB1 Barbarian (65mm tall) which has its integral metal base supplied with it.

What a 100mm Round Base is ideal for is a diorama of 28mm Scenics or to be put under a GNATS Mecha from the HOF 15mm Range each of which is 100mm or 90mm tall.

The smallest base and done by request of Laserburn fans is the 16mm Round which ideal for those miniatures and Asgard 15mm sci-fi too as these are true scale 15mm and smaller than our HOF and Ion Age ranges which use 20mm round bases.

Latest news from the mold makers. Restored!  VNT8 Grizzly Owls.  Two different hooting monsters from the late 1980’s originally Reider Design but with us for decades.  Painted here by Olihot27 on Instagram.  Stands 30mm tall sculpted by Dave Gallagher.

Thanks for your Time.

Grima Robots 28mm wave two 16 new poses with Female Control Team

Last year we brought a new faction to the massive 28mm Ion Age range; Grima Combat Robots and their Planetary Militia controllers.  Those sixteen miniatures have now been joined by a further sixteen based on requests.  The range now nears three hundred poses with the second release of Grima Combat Robots with Female Planetary Militia Controllers!

The Planetary Militia are present on virtually every world of the Prydian Precinct and while the bulk of its troops are Men and Women there is another type of soldier who fights; the Grima Combat Robots. Under Human control at all times and incapable of independent thought these machines selflessly serve using the same weapons and equipment that regular Planetary Militia’s do. Specialist operators control them issuing programmed orders.

If you wish to read in depth into the Gurtan Activation in 4302IC and about the Grima Robots there is an ARTICLE to glean more.

See all of the GRIMA ROBOTS or the PLANETARY MILITIA on the website refined searches.  These follow up on the brand new PORTABLE WEAPONS and their gun teams for Retained Knights, Muster, Militia plus the Shia Khan Empire last month.  Platoon’s give you two poses free, value packs give a small saving and as always every miniature is a single code too.  Here we go!

IP08 Grima Robot Rifle Platoon (IB92,IB93,IB94,IB95)

Sixteen miniatures with two included for free.

IB92 Grima Rifle Squad (IA265,IA266,IA267,IA268)

Dramatic Moth Rifle armed Combat Robot poses to expand your force.

IB93 Grima Rifle Squad II (IA269,IA270,IA271,IA272)

A fire team of Combat Robots with Rifles and a Charlatan Launcher.

IB94 Grima Close Assault Squad (IA273,IA274,IA275,IA276)

Armed with Urgan Combat Shotgun and Minstrel Taser these are urban assault robots.

IB95 Planetary Miniature Female Grima Control Squad (IA277,IA278,IA279,IA280)

The Female Human operators and maintainers of the Combat Robots.

Here is a painted example of the typical uniforms of the Grima Combat Robot taken from the first releases last year.  Every planet has its own ideas on colouration with some core worlds matching the robots to regiments of Muster or even Retained powered plate armour.  See code IP06 for the first platoon and packs IB63 to IB66.

Currently in the works at Alternative Armies are playing drafts of MOTH 2.0 and early work on a new edition of Firefight as well.  These, among many other updates, will feature mechanics for the Grima Robots.

Finally on Thursday 28th November towards the end of the Winter Mega Event we will have the release news of the new 28mm Malig Goblins..the first since 1993.

Thank you for Time

All of Jes Goodwins 1980’s Orcs for Asgard are now restored!

Ka Boom!  It has taken a year and happened in three parts but this day sees the completion of the project of restoration of the entirety Jes Goodwin’s classic Orcs made for Asgard in the early 1980’s.  A total of forty infantry Orcs, four Wolf Rider Orcs and now finally a cannon and its two crew.  Every miniature is a single and all painted by the talented Studio Maxi (who even did free hand designs on shields!).

As well as being single poses there are saver packs and now the massive Orc War Tribe which has every single model in the range within it.  Here are the details of the last releases in this project.

ORG1 Orc Cannon Kit (Body, Wheels, Hoops, Barrel and Cannon Ball)

ORG2 Orc Gunner with Match

ORG3 Orc Gunner with Rammer

ORP03 Orc War Tribe:  Get the ultimate skirmish force of forty seven metal 28mm scale Orcs with four cavalry rider Orcs on Wolves and a Cannon Kit.  The entire Jes Goodwin range of Orcs from Asgard.  It has a ten percent built in saving.

All the images of the Orcs are from the talented brush hand of Studio Maxi who has really brought them to life including hand painted shield motifs and more.  You can see how they scale next to our own Crystal Empire Elves (1993) as well as Human Militia from the Fantasy Warlord Range (1990) and Jes’s excellent Dwarfs (1985).  The Orcs vary in size from the Great Orcs (OR1-4), Orc Trackers (OR5-8), Orc Soldiers (OR18-21) and Cave Orcs (OR9-12) for example; fitted to their roles.

By request we have added the option to all of the Orc Wolf Riders (OR25-28) to get the rider and wolf or just the wolf on its own.  The wolf is among the nicest examples of its type of the era..a real fierce beast of teeth and fur.

Alternative Armies is committed to restoring all that we can of the Asgard ranges and Tabletop Miniature ranges as well.  Thus far we have restored most of the 15mm Historical Ranges as well as Laserburn and Asgard Sci-fi in that same scale.  We have brought back the Dragon Lizards as well as Space Marines by Nick Bibby and his massive Dragon too.  Almost the entire FM Fantasy Range is back in the world.  The process continues in 2025!

Thanks for your Time

Barbarians by Jez Goodwin restored 1980’s new pictures

We were asked and it has been done!  Sculpted by Jes Goodwin in the early 1980’s and to some among the finest 28mm Barbarians to exist in metal these codes were among the first Alternative Armies restored in Project Asgard.

Project Asgard was in its early days and hence the pictures were not among the best (ten years ago eh!) so they have been updated.  We have just restored the three Barbarian Centaurs as well so it seemed a good time and on top of that two set saver packs.  One with a saving off the full dozen and the other with a free Midsummer Druidess included.

Every miniature has a new picture of front and rear and these painted ones are from the personal collection of Sam Croes.  Above is our second favourite of them BP2 Fire Daughter.

These work in any game system as characters or rank and file in your warband.  The meanest of the bunch is of course BP12 Hax Ragged above; our favourite.

Enjoy the new pictures and we have an article coming later this year from Olihot27 who has a fantastic collection of Mr Goodwin’s restored miniatures from these Barbarians as well as his Dwarfs and from the Fantasy Monsters range.

Thanks for Reading!
