Gingerbread House and Were Chicken Coup unique Flintloque scenics by Tony Harwood

Recently gaming memories from 2012 were brought back to the fore over on the Notables Yahoo Group where many fans of Flintloque reside. Back then I ran a gaming blog called 'Barking Irons' an off shoot from a short lived magazine (if you can find a copy of these you are in for a treat) which featured all manner of Alternative Armies content. Foremost in terms of scenics was the work of Tony Harwood who produced some amazing scratch build unique 28mm terrain for his own collection slotting right into the World of Valon. Tony has put two of these pieces back online on his own blog. The Gingerbread House and the Were Chicken Coup. Yes, you read correctly...

I have furnished links to Tony's blog for both of these pieces as well as some other information from 2012 which you might find of interest. The linked articles are well worth a read if you like to craft your own 28mm scenery; plenty of pictures in progress. Thus far two books have been published by this talented fellow and both are worth seeking out.

The Gingerbread House
Around the time of the Salute wargame show in London in 2012 a Gingerbread House was created and featured in our 'Sharkes Gingerbread' participation game of Flintloque at the show. Go HERE to read the blog post with the whole tale of how it came about.

You can get the free scenario from that day in Stack Three by clicking on the link to download the whole free folder. It features characters from 5109 Sharkes Chosen box set and also from VLE11 The Gingerbread Set. A great read and a full adventure with game statistics for lumber cake based monsters.

The house itself is a wonderful creation full of details and with a feel of actually being made from candy. There are more in progress build images on the blog post to enjoy. Now for something a little different.

The Were Chicken Coup
Beware the were chickens of Beesdone. A piece made for a friend by Tony. Sadly a dear friend to us both who is no longer with us called Roger Willcox who is the fellow behind the creation of Uncle Rogipoos (see the website for this). Based on a story you can follow the path of it HERE but in essence a nightmare of poultry many clawed terror the Were Chickens are to be avoided.

There is not as much information on this building but you can see more in progress photos over on Tony's blog.

I hope you enjoyed this little time travel trip back to the different world of seven years ago. Fun and mad times they were. If any other articles come along which might be of interest be assured I will relay them to you all here.

Thanks for Reading,

Tony Harwood takes on our 28mm Mortar set

Long time Flintloque fan and master model maker Tony Harwood published is latest Valon inspired online build at the end of last month. He has been kind enough to give Alternative Armies permission to tell you all about it. We have detailed other Flintloque projects he has undertaken on our blog and you can see them all HERE on a specialised tag search of our blog. The whole project is scratch built and uses at its core our own 59520 Resin Mortar kit which can be used in Flintloque as well as in any 28mm scale historical system. You can see it on our website HERE

I have selected images from Tony's project running backwards to its beginning as well as a list of links to the parts of the project which you can click upon to read them in full and see all the pictures. He goes into details of tools used, paints, techniques and so on. It is a lovely looking unique build at home on anyone's table who is lucky enough to have it. Enjoy!

Tony Harwood's Pudigrochumsberg Barn for Flintloque

Tony Harwood has produced two books on the art of making wargames terrain and he features here on Alternative Armies pages on a regular basis with his scratchbuilt structures for his Flintloque collection.  Tony was inspired by the newly released Dogmen of Pudigrochumsberg last week and as a result he has created a building for them!

The article is in two parts and I suggest reading them in order.  The first part is HERE and the second part is HERE.  There are many images and a lot of 'in construction' shots and tips if you want to try your own hand at making this piece at home.

I think as I always do with Tony's work that it is a lovely piece of terrain.  Great construction, fab colours and a lovely finish.  Makes me a little jelous actually!  Only kidding.  Having the skill to create miniatures and terrain is not open to all of us.  After all I just weave the words into a world and that suits me.  My favourite aspect of the barn is the bone over the door it just sets the whole building off nicely.

You can find the brand new page on our website for the Pudigroan Dogmen HERE and if you want to learn more about them just search our blog using the tag for Pudigrochumsberg.  We currrently have Line Infantry and Casualties released and there will be news soon on the next code for October expanding this new army even more!

Thanks for Reading.

Tony Harwood paints up The Slaughterloo Monument

After a break the master model maker and long time Flintloque fan Tony Harwood has graced us all with some blog posts showing his take on our great 59010 Slaughterloo Monument.  We were giving this 28mm scale resin monument away in orders last month and hundreds of them went out across the world including quite a few painted by our staff with a variety of flags (another blog post perhaps!). Tony decided to paint his own up in the same way that Sam Croes did our one in the studio here.

You can visit his blog posts in the following order from their start to end to follow the process shown in the pictures here.  He goes into details of tools used, paints, techniques and so on.

As he says:

Alternative Armies have produced this resin terrain piece to commemorate the actual World Events of June 18th 1815, it depicts a bullet scarred monument of stone blocks topped with a draped Greate BitOrc Flag (the one featured on the old Flintloque Box set) and a broken Ferach Eagle.

The monument is on our website for regular sale now at a great price.  Go HERE to see it and learn more.

Great work Tony!

Thanks for Reading.

Gnome Cannon by Tony Harwood

I pick this post up from the talented Tony Harwood over on his own blog.  A lovely little set for Flintloque which he converted and painted up as his November 2014 project.  Three miniatures and a cannon all on the small side.

The cannon is made from many pieces from the 'bitz box' and has a custom base while the miniatures come from different codes.  Looking at them I see from the left: a Halfling gunner with sponger and a Halfing in apron then a Dwarf with sponger.  These are from 57000, 57001 which you can see HERE and also from 54501 Obidiah's Gun HERE.

There are currently no Gnomes in the miniature range and they would be literally the smallest miniatures in the Flintloque game.  We may do some in the future but at present Tony's are a fine stand in.  Actually I see them stacked on top of each other inside a trench coat style.  Ah, the madness of Flintloque eh!

Flintloque Buildings more of them by Tony Harwood

Tony Harwood is a big fan of Flintloque and an expert model maker.  He has already completed and sold out one book about his modelling and now he has just about sold out a second book too.   Over on his own blog he has put up three images of buildings from the book which are in the style of the World of Valon and Flintloque.  Click through to read the full article but I have put the images with their quotes below.

A Stone Barn made of clay, cardboard and core with Flintloque Elf for scale
An Armorican Elf style Well made of blue foam, plastic card and card
A Catalucian Dark Elf Windmill made from plastic beaker and coffee stirrer sails
Find out more about Flintloque on our website on its main game page HERE.

Excellent work Tony and best of luck with the book.

New 28mm Bits and Sprues released at Alternative Armies

This week Alternative Armies has added four new codes to its 'Bits and Sprues' range of battlefield accessories.  These are a firm favourite with players of Flintloque and Slaughterloo and are used for several aspects of wargaming.  They can be used to adorn miniatures to give them a more unique look.  They can be used as part of a conversion or scratch build of a miniature to make them truly special.  They can also be used as parts of a diorama or scatter terrain giving more emphasis to that piece of terrain.  So what are we adding to the Pastry Pies, Exotic Fruit, Tankards, Feathers and Pistols in the range.  Read on.

BS8 Cooked Fish 1.20GBP
Three different fish in 28mm scale on a sprue in white metal.  This sprue adds variety to your miniatures if you are playing Flintloque, Slaughterloo or any other 28mm wargame system.  Easy to add and easy to paint up.

BS9 Cooked Meat 1.20GBP
Three different types of cooked meat in 28mm scale on a sprue in white metal.  A string of sausages, a rack of ribs and a leg of pork.  This sprue adds variety to your miniatures if you are playing Flintloque, Slaughterloo or any other 28mm wargame system.  Easy to add and easy to paint up.

BS10 Roasted Dodo Legs 1.20GBP
Three different cooked bird's legs in 28mm scale on a sprue in white metal. If you play Flintloque you will get the humour and this sprue is a direct result of comments on The Notables Yahoo Group.  Dodo's are used as cavalry mounts by the Goblins of Al-Garvey. This sprue adds variety to your miniatures if you are playing any 28mm wargame system.  Easy to add and easy to paint up.

BS11 Carrots 1.20GBP
Four different lots of carrots in 28mm scale on a sprue in white metal. If you play Flintloque you will get the humour and this sprue is a direct result of comments on The Notables Yahoo Group.  Carrots are a motto and food source for the Rabbitmen of Burrovia. This sprue adds variety to your miniatures if you are playing any 28mm wargame system.  Easy to add and easy to paint up.

This is the last week of the current round of Deals and Offers on our website.  Here are the details of the offers and the free miniature too.  This will end on 16th October 2014 when a new round will be announced.  59000 The Armourers Pack (32 Random Muskets) is 25% off meaning you can convert or add to your Flintloque forces with ease.   In gunnery terms for fans of Slaughterloo and Flintloque we have a superb half price offer on the 59501 Grand Alliance Artillery Set (three cannons and two limber sets).  For personalities we have 15% off the great 51507 Elf Command Set for fans of the tyrant Emperor Mordred.  Our popular boxed set 5104 105th Rifles with 18 different Orcs in it is also 15% off so if you want to get some back up for Captain Sharke and his Rifleorc's this is your time.

Free in all orders is another brand new conversion to resin for Alternative Armies; 56563 Trolka Jager firing.  It is our intention to convert the entire 28mm range of massive Trolka infantry away from white metal and into resin instead.  This will mean a price reduction and it starts with quite a reduction.  That being one free Trolka Jager in every order automatically.  A wee gift worth 5.00GBP which you can also purchase more of it you desire.  So 56563 Trolka Jager firing free in every order and on general release at a lower price too.  Superb!

Dampf's modelling page: 3o Bella Manicotti project complete!

Tony Harwood has completed another monthly pledge promise to paint up and complete a Flintloque section of soldiers for his collection.  This month it was the first limited edition unit code LEU01 The 3o Bella Manicotti sculpted by Rob Alderman.  It is one of our limited editions.  You can find the final part of the blog post series HERE where Tony explains the above photo and the terrain in it.

Tony supplemented the miniatures he had with an officer Toad from the 56505 Todoroni Militia code with miniatures being cleaned up and mounted onto 2p coins. The bases were built up with Milliput Fine White epoxy filler.  Go HERE for the first part of the series and then go from there for the other four posts down the right hand side.

The LEU01 code is long sold out but on occasion Alternative Armies gets a set in trade for our 'swop drawer' so if you are interested in being put on the waiting list for it then send me an email.  I will put you on the list.

Good work Tony!

LEU03 Princess Julianna marches into eternity....

The last sets of the third limited edition unit code from Alternative Armies is now sold out.  Hence the Princess Julianna marches into eternity only to be seen now second hand or in our 'swop drawer' if we ever get any back to us for exchange.  The final sets went out of stock overnight and my thanks to those who snapped them up.

You can see the sold out page HERE on our website.  It will remain there for reference in the future. It joings the also sold out LEU01 Bella Manicotti and LEU02 Moldsk Guard units.  Each of these units has a story behind them but as I have publically before the story behind the Princess Julianna is the most touching and real to me.

We may create another limited unit code and if you have ideas as to what it might be then tell me by email or in the comments.  You never know...we might just do it.

Thanks for Reading.

Dampf's modelling page: Finklestein Dwarf project complete!

Finklestein Dwarves
Congratulations to Tony Harwood on completing his July 2014 online build for his personal Flintloque collection.  I have been watching this online build since it kicked off at the start of the month.  Tony kept us all up to date on the Notables Yahoo Group of his progress and unveiled a surprise too right at the end of the process.  He created the section with his own ideas which is right at the heart of the Flintloque ethos. Their uniform...his old school blazer!

The little red 'surprise'
Tony is a big fan of the Dwarves of Flintloque and has his own Sauerkraut Wars setting as well.

Getting started early July 2014
You can read all about the process across its four parts.  Beginning with Part One then Part Two moving on to Part Three and finally Part Four.

Excellent work!

Dampf's modelling page: Legion Irlandaise project complete!

The Legion Irlandaise!
Congratulations to Tony Harwood on completing his June 2014 online build for his personal Flintloque collection.  I have been watching the eight parts of this online build since it kicked off at the start of the month.  Tony teased us all by having members of the Notables Yahoo Group try and guess which Valonian regiment he was converting and painting.  I had an idea and was proved almost correct.  A Ferach allied Guinalean Bog Orc regiment, one which he named Legion Irlandaise.

A beginning on the 4th of June - Part One
Part Two sees more conversions and work and upto seven models now!
The Seven as converted for Part Three
There are eight parts in this series and I have placed links to each below.  I suggest you begin with the first and then go on from there to the last.  If you are keen only on conversions or only on painting then there is a lot to see:

There was an eighth figure added in part seven which I think was a great idea. There is a rumour that another online build will be undertaken in July...happy modelling Tony.
