Warbot II customised for 15mm Star Mercs by Sam Croes

Our most recent new miniatures in the vast HOF 15mm Science Fiction Range were an entire new faction; the Star Mercs. Armoured troopers for all of the hired gun jobs which were too tough for the lightly armed Rim Mercs. While we do plan an expansion to these fellows in the future for now there was a desire to give them a battlesuit and so we turned to the sculptor of the Star Mercs our head designer Sam Croes. Here is his take on WarBot II customised. 

 

 

AS028 WarBot II is for any scale just like WarBot I so using it in 15mm is no problem at all. The model comes as five pieces which is upper body, legs, left gun, right gun and comms antenna. Here is a picture of the standard build next to the Star Merc one. 

 

 

The Star Merc colour scheme is yellow with black detailing (our studio set, you can of course paint them any colour) and so the customised Warbot II had this as well. 

 

 

The addition of a missile pod as well as single baggage and double baggage rolls gives the campaigning Star Merc Battlesuit some extra firepower and kit for scouting as well. The additional pieces are all from IA065 15mm Vehicle Conversion Pack in the Ion Age Terrain and Accessories Range. The pack or anything from it can be had in any amount. 

 

 

Above is where each was added. Missile Pod (H), Single Equipment Roll (L) and Double Roll (M). Sam did think about quad rotary guns using part I from this set but missiles were chosen in the end. 

 

 

Unlike Security Force Alpha who police the teeming cities the Star Mercs travel between worlds and are deployed in squads and platoons. Armed with projectile and energy weapons as well as missile packs too.

New GNATS 15mm Mechs Daisy Cutter and Haymaker 70mm tall

Towering mechs are a pure part of future war on the tabletop and Alternative Armies is proud to present two more GNATS (Giant Neuro-Assist Titanic Soldiers) making a total of five different 15mm scale heavy two legged hitters.  These are in the HOF 15mm Science Fiction range of over one hundred and fifty codes which includes the SFA (Security Force Alpha) infantry, bikes, battlesuits, light and medium vehicles and more.

The Daisy Cutter and Haymaker are tier one GNATS meaning they are lower intensity warfare machines when compared to the Crookback and Contender for instance.  In 2088 both are produced by the giant Bethlehem Industries site on the former city of Detroit and both are front line units in the USGC (United States GNATS Core).  As with all our GNATS you can purchase one or use the on screen option of 'buy three save 10%' if you want a trio of them.

HOF164 Daisy Cutter GNATS:   The Daisy Cutter was so named due to its twin barreled FT506 45mm auto-cannons which have an extreme rate of fire when set on confrontation mode.  These compose the right arm.  The left arm has a manipulator hand with an under slung 20mm rotary cannon.  There is an upper hull mounted 120mm TR7 Thump Launcher with four rounds for encounters with other GNATS.  It also has a number of point defence lasers for small scale anti-infantry and material tasks both front and rear.  An easy to assemble 70mm tall resin model composed of seven parts and shown on a 50mm round resin base.  Supplied unassembled, unpainted and without a base.

HOF154 Haymaker GNATS: The Haymaker got its name from the twin manipulator hands it has meaning that it can deliver physical blows to an enemy GNATS or larger vehicle.  Often combined with the Daisy Cutter GNATS in active operations it has two hull mounted six slot missile pods and one 50mm cannon under each fist.  It also has a number of point defence lasers for small scale anti-infantry and material tasks both front and rear.  An easy to assemble 70mm tall resin model composed of six parts and shown on a 50mm round resin base.  Supplied unassembled, unpainted and without a base.

We have three other GNATS which are tier two bigger at about 90mm to 100mm tall main war machines.  The Crookback, the Contender and the Spike as with the new ones you can purchase one kit or three on screen saving ten percent.  We also have a number of Battlesuits such as the BearCat which in size are between the GNATS and infantry.

The HOFA01 Security Force Alpha (Core Army Set) is a great way to get a strong force of infantry, defence turrets and Charger vehicles with a good saving baked in.  There are four versions of the set with each changing the propulsion method from tracked to wheeled to hover vehicles or mixed.  Crack down on your planet's population or fight the alien hordes!

UM001 USEME 15mm Science Fiction is a very quick play generic set of rules which ideally fit with Security Force Alpha and the rest of the HOF range.  Get it in print or as a paid digital download at a lower price.  Pocket sized fun!

RUFUS Android new for Alternate Stars range

Allow me to introduce RUFUS to you! This new addition to Alternate Stars is on our website now.  Go HERE for the range.

R.U.F.U.S stands for Robotic Unit Fighting or Utility Servant and this type of Android is deployed across the Star Empire to bolster troops.  It is also used by merc crews and brigantines as added muscle.  Over time their neural nets develop personalities. A larger model (40mm tall) in any game system of your choosing beyond our little snippet of possible setting.  Useful in 28mm and 15mm settings as a war droid or personality. Composed of a resin upper body, resin legs plus arm with fist and arm with double chain cannon in metal.

We are well known for Flintloque for our High Fantasy Ranges for our Ion Age science fiction all in 28mm scale plus many more and as a long established company with a proven track record. Three New 15mm packs SFA Flamers, Grenadiers, Female Troopers and SAW Teams

When I mentioned mecha earlier I was referring to the GNATS (Giant Neuro-Assist Titantic Soldiers) of which we now have three different kits.  Each is around 100mm tall in 15mm scale and is easy to assemble and durable for tabletop use in your games.  HOF131 Contender GNATS which is a mainline mech with projectile weapons, HOF146 Crookback GNATS a mainline mech with magnetic and projectile weapons plus HOF147 Spike GNATS an artillery support mech.  Go HERE.

Dave Alsager and Commander Murdos 15mm Taranis Tank

It is my great pleasure to present to all the 15mm science fiction fans out there Dave Alsager (player of Patrol Angis and collector of Ion Age miniatures) take on the special Commander Murdo's Taranis main battle tank.  Thanks to Dave for permission and if you click the images on the blog they will enlarge.

“I painted the tank to be of the Gryllus Company, which is entry 17 on the poster Uniforms of the Prydian Precinct but it was pointed out to me that the colors were different (brick red, not the orange I used).  So instead I named them the 'Morning Glories' an offshoot of the 'Dusk Knights' my own force as a cavalry division.  Dusk Knights due to the hue of the Chameleon Circuits in their armour and their battle tactics...they strike at dawn or in dim light.”

David Alsager told me what is above and I think his force looks really awesome!  Here is a composite of views of his take on RWP02 Commander Murdo's Taranis Tank.  There are a lot of free files to download including special rules for this tank see them all on this PAGE of the website.

Asgard Space Marines collection painted by Mark Stevenson

A number of years ago we had the privilege of bringing a 28mm compatible range of classic miniatures back to the world. The Space Marines originally from Asgard Miniatures now at Alternative Armies. Mr Mark Stevenson is an avid miniature collector and enthusiast and it is my pleasure to be able to show you these pictures of his take on these miniatures. 

Dating from around 1980 there are thirteen different miniatures in the Space Marines collection; from fully armoured to light suited. You can see them all HERE and they will work in any wargame setting which takes a role in the cosmos. We also have the whole collection as a single box with a saving. 

Mark went with a cold white colour for the armoured space marines and a warmer orange for the ones in light space armour giving his work a tone of movies such as Moonraker which went for a hard science fiction take on combat outside the atmosphere. As you can see there is quite a size difference between the different armour grades making for a nice contrast. Here is a listing of all the codes:
